Born This Way
We begin to find and become ourselves when we notice how we are already found, already truly, entirely, wildly, messily, marvelously who we were born to be.
– Anne Lamott
I learned to appreciate the value of moments when I lost valuable time with my parents. When I was nine years old, my dad left our family to start a new life. He never returned or stayed in touch. I had nine special years with my dad.
When I was 13, my mom was hospitalized for a brain injury. She had attempted suicide and suffered brain damage from the incident. She too never returned to the family home or to her role as caregiver to me and my brother. Although she is still a part of my life, I only had 13 precious years with my mom as a mother.
Through the struggles and changes to my family unit, I learned a lesson about the value of time. I learned that moments of love are elusive and enlightening. They connect us in brief periods of time and leave us with lasting imprints of happiness. Moments of love are gifts, small treasures of time, to be created and celebrated often.
We are born to live in the wild, messy, and marvelous moments of life. I experience these moments everyday in my interactions with people, animals and the environment. I am currently working on a book that highlights the impact of simple positive moments on our wellbeing. For now, I will share moments from my wild, messy and marvelous life with you here. I hope you will share some of your moments with me. Thank you for being here and a big thanks to all the people that make the moments possible.
